FIELD GUIDE

Your first Android port

A port brings a game or its engine to Android. Start with a project whose documentation identifies an Android release, the input methods it supports and the data it needs.

Choose a manageable first project

Look for clear installation instructions, an active project page and requirements your device meets. Our controller and standalone collections are useful starting points; they are classifications from available metadata, not installation guarantees.

Before downloading

  1. Read the game entry’s asset requirement and compatibility notes.
  2. Open the linked project page and check its Android instructions.
  3. Confirm the CPU architecture. An ARM64-only app needs a 64-bit Android environment.
  4. Get any original game files from your own legally acquired copy.

Install with a way back

Follow the project’s release instructions. If an APK requires Android’s install permission, grant it to the source you chose and review it afterwards. Preserve a copy of your saves before replacing a version. When something fails, record the release, Android version, chipset and error before opening an upstream issue.

Explore standalone entries or compare your hardware with the available notes.
