FIELD GUIDE

Prepare your original game files

Many Android ports distribute an engine or executable while expecting you to supply game data from a copy you own. Keep the original files private and do not upload them to a catalog or issue tracker.

Check the exact edition

Projects may support a particular retail revision, storefront release or regional version. Read its documentation before copying files. File names, checksums and formats are project-specific.

Prepare a working copy

  1. Install or extract your legally acquired game using the storefront or media’s supported method.
  2. Locate the files the port explicitly requests.
  3. Copy the required data to a separate folder, preserving spelling and directory structure.
  4. Transfer it to Android using your own USB, local storage or trusted transfer method.
  5. Choose the data folder in the port’s system file picker if instructed.

Let the project define the destination

Android storage permissions and app-specific folders differ by OS and application. Avoid assuming an old /sdcard path works on a new Android release. Follow the current project’s file-picker instructions.

Keep saves separate

Back up your saves before switching releases or data editions. Never replace an entire app-data folder without understanding which files are saves, settings and assets.
